Description:

Beginning January 1, 2026, North Dakota’s new Civil Protection Order statute reshapes how survivors of violence and harassment seek protection through the courts. Seth O’Neill of the North Dakota Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition will break down what’s changing, how the new law streamlines and expands access, and what attorneys need to know when assisting clients under this new framework. This program is in partnership with NDDSVC.

This introductory session provides a clear roadmap through the Social Security appeals process, from initial reconsideration to federal court review. Designed for attorneys new to this area, the program will highlight key procedural steps, practical advocacy tips, and valuable resources available to support pro bono and legal aid representation.

3:00PM-4:00PM Housing Law in Practice

This session explores eviction hearings in North Dakota through a practical and solutions-oriented discussion. Presenters will outline the eviction process, highlight the impact of tenant representation, and share ideas for improving access to justice and fairness in housing cases. The program will also examine variations in procedures across counties and between North Dakota and Minnesota, along with the role of fair housing laws in eviction matters. Designed as a guided conversation rather than a traditional lecture, this CLE invites reflection on how attorneys can make a meaningful difference in housing stability across the state.
